On Saturday, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed a gathering in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, stating that serving farmers is akin to serving God. He emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the goal is to double the income of every farmer, aiming for a glorious and self-reliant prosperous India. He assured that there will be no compromise on the interests of Indian farmers.
Encouraging Quality Farming Practices
While speaking at Acharya Narendra Dev Inter College in Pathardeva, Chouhan urged farmers to utilize quality seeds for better crop yields. He warned that those selling inferior seeds should be cautious, as strict actions will be taken against them.
Promoting Sustainable Agriculture
Chouhan also highlighted the importance of adopting natural farming practices to preserve land and soil for future generations. He stressed the need to avoid excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides.
Honoring Legacy and Engaging with Farmers
Earlier, the minister paid tribute to the late Ravindra Kishore Shahi, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Sangh, by offering floral tributes at his statue. He inspected various departmental stalls at the fair and encouraged participating farmers and students, distributing certificates to beneficiaries of various schemes.
Connecting with Farmers on the Ground
Later, Chouhan visited Dumri Khurd village in Gorakhpur, where he held a community meeting with local farmers. Although a stage was prepared for his speech, he chose to sit on a traditional cot among the farmers, stating that being on stage creates distance, while sitting with them helps in understanding their issues better.
Collaborative Solutions for Challenges
He emphasized that when people and ministers work together, challenges can be resolved more swiftly. Highlighting the government's farmer-centric policies, he noted that the minimum support price (MSP) for wheat has been increased by ₹160 per quintal compared to last year.
